On July 13, 2026 the Department of Defense suspended CMMC Phase 2 — including the November 10, 2026 third-party certification deadline — effective immediately, pending a roughly 60-day reform review. Phases 3 and 4 are frozen with it. What did not pause: NIST SP 800-171 Rev. 2, DFARS 252.204-7012, Phase 1 self-assessments, SPRS scoring, and annual affirmations all remain in force. With independent assessment on hold, the compliance risk now rests on your own signature — and prime-contract flow-down obligations still bind.
Phase 1 self-assessments take effect. CMMC requirements begin appearing in DoD solicitations, with contractors attesting to their own NIST SP 800-171 posture.
DoD suspends CMMC Phase 2. The November 10, 2026 third-party certification deadline is halted effective immediately, and a 60-day CMMC Reform Task Force review opens. Phases 3 and 4 and future milestones are frozen with it.
Task force recommendations expected. The review's output should make the program's direction — and any revised timeline — clearer.
Nothing lapsed. NIST SP 800-171 Rev. 2, DFARS 252.204-7012, SPRS scoring, and annual affirmations remain fully enforceable, and flow-down requirements keep reaching subcontractors.
